Long ago, Ben & Jerry's was making brownie ice cream sandwiches for sale in grocery stores. Occasionally, broken pieces of brownies would be included in the deliveries, and the team would seize the opportunity to experiment with these accidental ingredients. They discovered that the addition of brownie pieces to chocolate ice cream produced a delicious result.

This original experimental flavor eventually evolved into the beloved Chocolate Fudge Brownie ice cream. Meanwhile, Ben Cohen had met Bernie Glassman, the founder of Greyston Bakery, a Yonkers, New York-based company with a mission to end poverty and give back to the community. Ben was impressed by the quality of Greyston's brownies and handwrote a note requesting two truckloads of brownie pieces to be used in the Chocolate Fudge Brownie flavor.

Integrating the Greyston brownies into the ice cream was not a straightforward process. It took about 25 batches of brownies and six months of work before the flavor finally debuted in 1991. Since then, it has remained a fan-favorite.

All Ben & Jerry's ice cream pints are made with non-GMO sourced ingredients and cage-free eggs. The cocoa, sugar, and vanilla used in the Chocolate Fudge Brownie ice cream pint are Fairtrade certified and the ice cream is kosher. Additionally, the company ensures that all its packaging is responsibly sourced.
