For years, Ben had been pondering the lack of a good marshmallow ice cream. "Most attempts at marshmallow were wispy. You can see the white streaks, but you can't taste them, you can't feel them, you can't experience the true glorious marshmallowness of it all," he remembers. In 1995, Ben & Jerry's suggested to the rock band Phish that they create a Phish-inspired flavor, celebrating their shared Vermont, USA, roots. As the collaboration took shape, Ben saw an opportunity to solve the marshmallow conundrum.

Starting with a base of rich chocolate ice cream, Ben and his flavor gurus began developing the evolving concoction, testing it with the band. "We ate many test tubs around the table with Phish. We've done flavors with other artists and entities, but nobody was more involved in creating the flavor than Phish was," Jerry says. The band was instrumental in calling for the addition of caramel swirl, which pushed the flavor over the top.

The result is the delicious Ben & Jerry's ice cream pint with chocolate ice cream, gooey marshmallow, caramel swirls, and fudge fish. Ben & Jerry's works with Fairtrade certified producers for cocoa, sugar, and vanilla, using non-GMO sourced ingredients and cage-free eggs. The company also ensures responsible packaging for its ice cream pints.

In addition to the delicious flavor, a portion of the royalties from Ben & Jerry's Phish Food ice cream pints goes toward environmental efforts in Vermont's Lake Champlain Watershed. Ben & Jerry's ice cream pints are also Certified Kosher, catering to diverse dietary needs.
